Quality of Life and Materialistic Value Orientation

Empirical evidence consistently shows that an emphasis on materialistic values negatively correlates with quality of life, both at an individual and societal level. The purpose of this thesis is to contribute to a better understanding of this interrelationship. The thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part presents concepts both of quality of life and materialism as well as contemporary approaches to their research and measurement. Special attention is paid to the concept of eudaimonic well-being as a core concept of optimal human functioning, and to the concept of post-materialism as a value orientation that emphasizes self-expression and quality of life. The thesis is based on two propositions referring to the relation between quality of life and materialistic value orientation. On the one hand, materialism facilitates an economic development and market economy of a given society. At a certain level of economic development there is a tendency to shift to post-materialistic values associated with autonomy, self-realization and personal growth. The Position of Green Party in the Partial System of Czech Republic with the Use of Cleavages Theory

First chapters of the final thesis "are paid to brief introduction of the cleavages theory and the possibility of its use in partial system of Czech Republic. Following chapters analyze the origination and development of Green Parties in Western Europe, while greater attention is paid to history of Green Party in Czech Republic, its ideological and political alignment. Profile of visitors of national park Šumava

The aim of this thesis is to characterize the visitor od National park Šumava, deals with the motive to visit and way to use this territory. It also deals with the fundamental perception of landscape National Park and evaluates shift in the perception of the landscape structures in relation to the literature of the 19th century. Finally, it deals with the environmental attitudes of visitors. For complex underpinning of these issues are first explained the basic concepts, their distribution and the most important milestones in the relationship of man to nature. Working with the assistance of historical development shows important changes in environmental thinking and attitudes through a documented thesis confirms or refutes the contrary.

Ecological Issues in Czechoslovakia

Práce se zabývá vývojem ekologického hnutí v Československu. Svoji pozornost zaměřuje především k vývoji ekologických iniciativ a ekologického diskurzu v době komunistické nesvobody a v době celospolečenských změn v listopadu 1989 do období rozpadu Občanského fóra v roce 1991. Nedílnou součástí je rovněž analýza vzniku a vývoje Strany zelených, která se stala předmětem scénářů a pokusů o provedení politických reforem v rámci komunistického režimu. Cílem práce je zjistit, jak téma ochrany přírody rezonovalo především v oblasti opozičních a režimních struktur a jaký osud jej následoval v období porevolučního vývoje následovaný otázkou, proč došlo k postupnému úpadku ekologického povědomí ve společnosti. Ke splnění cíle práce byla využita metoda orální historie, jež zprostředkovává pohledy oslovených narátorů - pamětníků problematiky úlohy ekologické karty. Tímto přístupem se snaží nahradit především chybějící archivní materiály. Formou obsahové analýzy a komparace se práce pokouší srovnávat procesy probíhající v západní Evropě s ekologickou tématikou v Československu. Práce se oborově nachází na pomezí historie, politologie, ale také sociologie, přičemž zdůrazňuje akcent historicko-politologický. The Development of Postmaterialism in the Czech Republic

This thesis analyzes the development of postmaterialism in the Czech Republic. Specifically, it deals with the effects that might cause a slight decrease between measurements in 1999 and 2008. The theoretical part of the thesis presents basic concepts of postmaterialism, as defined by Ronald Inglehart, and selected critique of the concept. The second part is an exploratory analysis of research European Value Study, which shows that there is still present a generational growth of postmaterialism. in Czech population and that the decrease is likely to be most affected by the economic situation in the everyday life of the respondents. Based on the theory and exploratory analysis three hypotheses are formulated about the influences on the development of postmaterialism in the Czech Republic between 1999 and 2008. The first hypothesis about the media impact of the financial crisis has been falsified. The following hypotheses about the effects of inflation and fuel prices to postmaterialism have not been falsified and must be taken into account. The conclusions have mainly methodological character, which is claimed to affect the context of questioning the development of postmaterialism.

Limits and Opportunities of the Czech Cultural Diplomacy

Limits and opportunities of the Czech cultural diplomacy are analyzed in this master thesis on three different levels. The first one is theoretical, speaking about cultural diplomacy of small states. Both insights from traditional field of international relations and other, less traditional fields are used. The second level is practical, analyzing the situation of Czech Republic as the active part of cultural diplomatic activities. The third part puts the Czech cultural diplomacy in a specific foreign environment, analyzing the limits and opportunities of the Czech cultural diplomacy in Sweden. The chapter presents Swedish cultural values, habits, infrastructure and financing, mentioning the actual position of Czech culture in Sweden. Last chapter seeks to prove, if cultural diplomacy of small states can be efficient, despite limited resources. An extensive survey was conducted, building on a long-lasting project of Czech cultural diplomacy in the Swedish town of Katrineholm.
